Vectrona, LLC (Vectrona) has been awarded a prime contract to complete the Mixed Virtual Possibilities Study for the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Technical Training Center (TTC) in Chattanooga, TN. The study will include a full scope training capability assessment, feasibility study, and return on investment (ROI) analysis for the integration of Extended Reality and modeling and simulation capabilities including the development of a digital transformation implementation roadmap.
The NRC licenses and regulates the Nation’s civilian use of radioactive materials to provide reasonable assurance of adequate protection of public health and safety, to promote the common defense and security, and to protect the environment. The TTC develops, manages, and delivers a robust program of instruction to train and certify the engineers and inspectors that execute the NRC’s mission.
“Nuclear industries face the same training and education challenges being encountered across other industries, and the Technical Training Center needs partners that can help them bring their training curriculum and methodologies into the 21st century by incorporating leading-edge technologies,” said Joe Gelardi, President/CEO of Vectrona. “Our successes in diverse and challenging learning environments gives us the proven know-how to analyze and assess uses cases and determine the most effective application of Extended Reality (XR) solutions. We’re committed to delivering the same superb results and Return on Investment we have delivered to other high performing Navy, Air National Guard and Air Force teams.”
Extended Reality includes the broad range augmented, mixed and virtual reality (AR/MR/VR) technologies including many applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), modeling and simulation and serious games. When properly applied, XR technologies deliver the spatial context required to effectively enable learning content during the widest range of live team collaboration, individual, and remote learning sessions. The digital transformation roadmap will establish a plan for integrating XR capabilities into TTC learning programs to create the benefits of interactive immersive learning experiences and enhanced collaboration while reducing the costs of instruction, training aids, and travel.
